Description

Qualifications: A Painter II will apply paint, varnishes, stains and other coatings to interior and/or exterior surfaces with brush, roller or other tools. Responsible for preparing surfaces for painting and removing old paint using paint removers, scrapers, wire brushes, or blowtorches. Prepares paint and primers and matches color. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB

Knowledge of:

  • understands project budget and works efficiently to keep within budget constraints
  • discusses project details with general contractor or client
  • reads plans and orders materials
  • seeks to better understand all materials and expands knowledge through education
  • clarifies unknowns when necessary with Superintendent
  • design techniques, principles, tools, and instruments involved in the production and use of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models

Skills:

  • materials, methods, and appropriate tools to complete the task at hand
  • principles and processes for providing customer service and evaluating customer satisfaction
  • machines and tools including their designs, uses, benefits, basic repair, and basic maintenance
  • the composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo including uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods
  • inspecting and evaluating the quality of products
  • using mathematics to accurately perform calculations common to the construction industry
  • basic reading, writing, and communications skills
  • complies with safety best practices

Abilities:

  • willing to train less experienced and tenured painters
  • match or detect differences between colors including shades of color and brightness
  • exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time
  • multi-task and prioritize duties in a fast-paced environment
  • apply commonsense understanding to carry out oral and written instructions
  • take and follow directions and feedback
  • define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

  • travel out of town

Education Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Relevant work experience may be substituted for education requirements.

Experience Requirements: A Painter II will typically have 2 – 5 years of experience.

Wages/Benefits:  Successful applicant will be paid an hourly wage dependent on his/her qualifications, experience, and capabilities.  Some benefits are available to full-time, regular employees after successful completion of the Introductory Period and these benefits will be explained at time of interview.
